A pick and place machine has a combination of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems. The new control board, named Starfish, has to fulfill a variety of tasks. Since I knew that the Lumen team was working on a new motherboard revision, I figured I'd take the time to explore creating a board of my own. After a silly incident that was entirely my fault, I managed to fry the STM32 on the board. However, since I was an early adopter my control board had some understandable rough edges. The Lumen includes a control board that handles all of the electronics, motors, and pneumatics: This eventually lead to me wanting to create my own control board for the machine. However, being, well, me, I couldn't just leave it as-is! I immediately started working on mods with the community 1. My Lumen is a beautiful shade of Polymaker Teal, and its first incarnation was a wonderful sight: It's a wonderful open source project that aims to bring the power of these expensive industrial machines into reach for makers and small businesses. Fist, some background: Back in May, I assembled my very own pick and place machine - a LumenPnP from Opulo.
